DIY Plus Size Halloween Ideas You May Consider

I’m currently on the lookout for DIY plus size Halloween costumes to wear at the end of the month. I have seen a lot of exciting costume inspirations. I would like to wear them, but my mind is not made up yet.

I’d like my husband and me to wear a couple-themed costume or maybe if my kids are still into it, a group costume. Wouldn’t that be so much fun?

Meanwhile, here are some of my favorite picks. Some are really sexy, while others just cover up everything! I am so excited to show my husband this list to get his opinion on which one to sew!

1. Unicorn

Unicorns are rare and mystical creatures! If you want a simple yet magical costume this Halloween, maybe you’d like to create this unicorn hoodie! You can replace the felt with tulle to make it more whimsical.

2. Greek Goddess

Break that mindset that only skinny women can wear Greek goddess costumes. Curvy women can wear this outfit too. All you need is a white dress, a leaf crown, and some gold bling.

3. Pocahontas

Like the Greek goddess outfit, full-figured women can definitely don this Pocahontas costume. So wear this outfit with pride, see the colors of the wind, and find your John Smith. Don’t you think it’s cute?

4. Princess Fiona

For this costume, you will need a red wig and green body paint. You may opt to wear the famous princess’ green gown or the warrior look with complete armor props.

5. Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland

This is my favorite character. You can never go wrong with this costume. It’s easy to pull this off. To complete this look, all you need are the tiara, shoes, and of course, the makeup.

6. Pirate Costume

Another idea you can work on is being a female pirate. You will be needing a wench blouse for this, just like the one shown in the tutorial above. For more pirate costume ideas, click here.

7. Mermaid

8. Tracy Turnblad from Hairspray

From the silver screen to Broadway, Hairspray is a cult favorite. Have you ever thought about dressing up as Tracy Turnblad? You can create a knife-pleated plaid skirt using an old XXL T-shirt.

9. Ursula from the Little Mermaid

There are many versions of Ursula’s costume. You can make it very sexy if you want to.

10. Little Miss Piggy

Let’s create a Little Miss Piggy Pigs in Space costume. Here’s a pdf pattern from Jade Flower. You can modify her costume by merely wearing a halter neck purple mini dress paired with a silver belt, a pair of silver leggings, and a pair of silver boots.

You have seen the entire list of options for DIY plus size Halloween costumes. From mystical unicorn to enchanting mermaid costume, which one is your favorite? Each has its own charm, but my favorite would be the “mermaid.” I confess I love “The Little Mermaid” so much. ;=)
