Not my usual sort of posting, but this is making me happy today! A brand new sewing machine! My trusty Singer of 31 years refused to go another stitch last week. 😩 Today starts a new chapter with this one. It’s mechanical, not electronic. Yippee! It is said to sew through paper, silk, four layers of denim, and leather. 😳 It does 18 stitches, which is 14 more than I’ll ever need. I’m hoping it’s a work horse of a machine, because that’s why I bought it. Here goes…

6. Singer Quantum Stylist 9960

For my next project, I'm circulating back to my Singer Quantum 9960 sewing machine. It is the second youngest in my collection and one of only 3 machines bought from the shop (the other is my Janome overlock and cover-stitch which I will write about on another post). Except for the overlocker, both this Singer and the cover-stitch were birthday presents from hubby ❤️😍❤️ . . Of all my machines, this one is the loudest. But of all my machines, it is also the most convenient with one button automatic thread cutter 🤩👏👏👏, and one step buttonholes. . . In the box, you get the extended table, all the sewing feet, even the walking feet and hundreds of stitches that I will never use 😂. I think the much higher Aus price (almost a 10th cheaper in the US) is still worth it just because you don't have to buy more accessories. I think it's a great intermediate level sewing machine. . . I also service this one myself, I YouTube how to keep this machine working like clock clock. The manual suggest you don't oil it yourself but I think it's just a scam to make sure you take it back to the shop for a $299 service 😁. Well it's been over 3 years and she is still working beautifully. Don't get me wrong, I would never open the electronic area 😬 that is asking for it. . . Every month or so, I vacuum all the nooks and crannies, remove the bobbin casing and add a single drop of oil to the tiny fluffy area at the bottom. So far I have made 80% of my projects on this machine, it is great for cotton and lighter weight fabrics but it struggled with thicker layers of fabrics. Sometime it would go through all thick layers and other times the needle just don't have enough force to go all the way down and will get stuck. When it can sew through these layers it sounds terrible. This is when I take my project to one of the vintage. . . I feel so spoilt, being able to pick from so many sewing machines 🙏 . . . . . . . #sewist #sewicalist #sewobsessed #sewistofinstagram #instasew #sewingmachine #singersewing #singersewingmachine #diyservice #singerquantumstylist9960 #sewingmachines #electronicsewingmachine
